History

Moulin de CiffreAfter a two year search, the Lésineau family bought the Moulin de Ciffre in 1998. In the upper valley of the Taurou River, the estate is the site of two ancient flour mills:

Famille Lésineau

- a very old water-driven mill that took advantage of the steep fall in the Taurou River at this point. The mill race was fed by a canal from the Pensière dam built upstream. The turbine had a vertical axle.
- a more recent windmill, higher up the slope in a spot where the valley narrows, the mill's sails taking advantage of the slightest breath of wind.

The old people of the village talk of "La Mouline de Ciffre". They all remember swimming in the Pensière, but none of them ever saw the mills working. On the other hand, they all remember the olive trees and vines tilled by the chimney-sweep's horses, and the excellent wines that have always been made on the property.
